# hopeandvisioncommunities
16 Days of Activism is an international movement campaigning against gender-based violence. It runs over 16 days (hence the name!) starting 25th November – the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women - and ending 10th December - which is Human Rights Day.
Individuals, organisations, and communities come together to advocate for a world free from violence against women and girls.
- Every 10 minutes a woman is killed.
- 60% of female homicides are committed by partners or family members.
- 1 in 3 women experience violence in their lifetime, and studies show that women who use substances experience higher levels of violence.
Women who are struggling with drug or alcohol use, report additional barriers when it comes to getting help from domestic abuse services. Either due to fear of losing their children or concerns about being judged.
What can I do?
We all have a part of play in preventing gender-based violence. We at Hope and Vision Communities are showing our solidarity by attending this online event provided by Berkshire Women's Aid: 16 Days - Coercive Control You can attend an event that is local to you or online.
Together, we can all help to create a world where men and women can live together, without fear of harm.
